Summer SPARK!

Do you enjoy building things, creating art, learning new skills, communicating ideas, solving problems, or coming up with a plan? Then Summer SPARK! is for you! This experience is being modeled on the huge success of the SPARK! Hackathon.

This summer, we are offering three summer programs: SPARK! Exploration for rising Grades 6 - 8 and Launchpad for rising Grades 9 - 12.

We encourage students with a wide variety of backgrounds, interests, and experience levels to apply.

Click on the icons below to learn more about each experience.

Kim Wilkens is the Grades K - 8 coordinator of the Computer Science Program in the Learning Village, co-founder of the SPARK! Hackathon, and founder of Tech-Girls.
Zach Minster is the Grades 9 - 12 coordinator of the Computer Science Program in the Upper School and co-founder of the SPARK! Hackathon.

Student Testimonials

"We worked in a lot of different languages in these two weeks, and we got to explore a lot of different areas of computer science,' said Nia Robinson '22. "For the past few days, we decided what we liked and what we were going to work on to show here. I liked it because we got to explore what we wanted to and the teachers were really nice and really helpful."
Luke Roberts, a rising freshman at Charlottesville High School, also had a great Launchpad experience. "I started off the week not knowing any JavaScript and knowing barely any HTML and CSS, and by the end of the two weeks I built a fully functioning website," he said. "It was really cool and I really enjoyed it."
