Celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day

On Feb. 17, the world celebrates Random Acts of Kindness Day. It also kicks off Random Acts of Kindness Week. Grade 3 teacher Emily Mathews shares some information on having fun, being kind, and making kindness the norm.

Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is a nonprofit program on a mission to change schools, workplaces, families, and society through kindness. They work toward that goal by creating free content promoting kindness toward others, and teaching important kindness skills to kids. They believe anyone can become a "RAKtivist" (short for ‘Random Acts of Kindness activist’). Be sure to check out some of their ideas that you can share on Random Acts of Kindness Day or any day, including:

  • Writing down someone's best qualities
  • Running or walking a 5K for a cause
  • Starting a piggy bank for a cause
  • Making a homemade card
  • Leaving a surprise in your mailbox for your mail carrier

The foundation has even created free kindness calendars and printables. I hope you will join in the fun on Feb. 17, 2020 for Random Acts of Kindness Day and again on Nov. 13, 2020 for World Kindness Day!
