Each year the Hour of Code takes place during Computer Science Education Week, which fell Dec. 5 – 11 in 2016. To join in the fun, Ms. FitzHenry hosted an Hour of Code pop-up Makerspace in the Legner Learning Village Library on Dec. 6.
According to its website, the Hour of Code is a "global movement reaching tens of millions of students in more than 180 countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event." At the School, students who participate in the Computer Science Open Lab time led approximately 50 others in activities including creating 3D ornaments and LED holiday cards, as well as coding in Scratch and Python. Origami snowflake activities were also available.
More photos from the makerspace are now available on the St. Anne's-Belfield School SmugMug account courtesy of Ms. Wilkens and Ms. FitzHenry. Ms. Wilkens has also provided the instructions from the Hour of Code Makerspace activities on her CS for the Learning Village blog.
