Learning Village Team Declared Regional Winners of Stock Market Game

Learning Village students Zara Craig '23 and Isabel Humphreys '23 were recently named regional winners of the 2017 – 2018 Stock Market Game. The team, advised by Grade 7 math teacher Melissa Phillips, began with a hypothetical $100,000 and, after selecting investments, increased that to $105,911.52 after 11 weeks. A separate team of Nolan Burkhart '23 and Jack Dozier '23 also participated.

"Four students from the grades seven and eight math team chose to use the skills we learned in class and apply them to the Stock Market Game," said Phillips. "I'm proud of all of them for taking on this challenge and for showing the relevance of math outside of the classroom."

The Stock Market Game competition is conducted each year by the Virginia Council on Economic Education. All regional winners will be recognized at a reception at the James Madison University (JMU) Center for Economic Education on May 17.
