Fifth Grade Families Invited to Inaugural Family Book Club

Fifth grade students and families are invited to join in the Learning Village Library's inaugural book club, with a celebration to take place on Feb. 12 at 6:00 p.m. with discussion, activities, and art related to Sharon Draper's novel Out of My Mind. A special guest speaker is also on the schedule.

This collaborative book club was created with librarian Elaine Kauffman of Trevor Day School in New York City, and readers and families from both schools will have the chance to connect digitally during the reading period.

Out of My Mind is the story of Melody, a brilliant young woman who is unable to talk, walk, or write... until she discovers something that will allow her to speak for the first time. The novel spent nearly two years on the New York Times' bestseller list, and is currently available in twenty different language translations. It has also won the Josette Frank Award and the Virginia Reader's Choice Award, among many other honors.

Students and families interested in obtaining a copy of Out of My Mind should bring their registration forms to Ms. FitzHenry by Friday, Jan. 18.
