Congratulations to Adam Wilson '20 on winning second place in the ESU National Shakespeare Competition!
Wilson beat out hundreds of students around the country through three stages of competition. The virtual final took place via Zoom on Monday, April 27. His monologue (Act 1 Scene 1 from Richard III) can be watched on the English-Speaking Union YouTube channel starting at 19:40.
"Adam's performance went far beyond all expectations in its excellence, in his sensitivity to and understanding of challenging text, and in his profound skills as an actor," said Upper School Humanities & Theatre Arts teacher Dorene Fisher. "That the competition had to take place on Zoom made it all the more difficult, but Adam was calm and confident as he performed from his living room. I hope everyone in our community lets Adam know how proud we are of him and his work in achieving this honor. Second in the nation! That is truly something to celebrate in these very difficult times. Bravo, Adam!"
As a part of the second place prize package, Wilson will attend a three-week session at the American Shakespeare Center's Summer Camp.
