St. Anne’s-Belfield Athletics Announces New Head Coaches for Volleyball and Swim

It is with tremendous excitement that we announce the hiring of Trent Holden ’12 as the new varsity volleyball head coach and Kristyn Wilson and Brooke Canova, P. ’31 as Varsity Swim co-head coaches.

A Class of 2012 alumna and Grade 8 science teacher, Trent Holden has been an integral part of our coaching staff in volleyball, lacrosse, and basketball over the last 10 years. Trent spent four years as an assistant varsity coach, and while she stepped away for a few seasons to serve as JV Girls’ Basketball coach, she remained connected to the program.

“I have absolutely loved getting to know the students in my role as a teacher at the School,” says Coach Holden. “I look forward to the opportunity to help build the volleyball program to future success.”

“Trent creates excitement wherever she goes, be that amongst her science students, faculty, administration, and especially with the student-athletes she met with during the search process,” says Director of Athletics Seth Kushkin. “She understands the steps that our program has taken in the last few years and is excited to help move us forward.”

During Coach Holden’s playing days at St. Anne’s, she was an All LIS player and helped lead her team to the state tournament and LIS conference championship. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the volleyball team under the incredible leadership of Stacey Gearhart during my time at STAB and profited from having the opportunity to be her assistant coach while I was at UVA. I’m excited to come back to the program as the head coach.”

Kristyn Wilson has accepted the co-head coach role after spending the 2021-22 swim season as an assistant coach under Coach Megan Grant. In this phenomenal season, student-athletes broke 14 school swim records, and both girls’ and boys’ swim teams placed in the Top 10 of the VISAA state championships.

“It’s a privilege to coach this dedicated group of student athletes,” says Coach Wilson. “The swim team has benefited from tremendous leadership over the last several years, and I am looking forward to supporting the team’s culture of spirit, success, and sportsmanship.”

Brooke Canova returns to the position after having served in the co-head coach role from 2008 – 2013, making a true impact on the program during those years.

"Returning to our swim program is very exciting for me,” says Coach Canova. “I look forward to working with Coach Wilson and continuing to grow the traditions of the program Coach Grant has worked so hard to establish."

“Kristyn and Brooke will team up to lead a wonderful team of talented Saints swimmers,” says Mr. Kushkin. “And they’ll do so while sharing their passion for this sport and the St. Anne’s-Belfield community.”

Go Saints!
