Hewson Duffy '20 was recently recognized with a third place in the poetry category of the Bennington Young Writers Awards.
The awards, which are given annually in celebration of Bennington College’s literary legacy, promote excellence in writing at the high school level. Awards are given in the categories of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. A first-, second-, and third-place winner are selected in each of the categories, with cash prizes awarded to each. This year, more than 3,000 high school students submitted to the competition.
Award winners are also eligible for undergraduate scholarships to Bennington College. Those who enroll at Bennington receive a $15,000 scholarship every year for four years, for a total of $60,000.
“Extraordinary periods like this one call on a new generation of writers to uplift and enlighten,” said Bennington College Interim President Isabel Roche. “For more than eighty years, Bennington College has been committed to cultivating emerging artistic talent, and we are proud to continue that legacy by honoring this year’s class of young writers.”
