Swimming & Diving Teams Compete in State Championship

Congratulations to all of the swimmers and divers who competed in the 2019 VISAA State Championship Meet Feb. 15 & 16, during which six team records were broken. Records and other highlights are listed below.

"Leading up to states, we talked about the importance of staying focused and positive, cheering on your teammates, and showing outstanding sportsmanship. We were impressed with our student-athletes' leadership, encouragement, and spirit all weekend long," said Coed Varsity Swimming Head Coach Megan Grant.

At the league level, Gresh Chapman '21 took the 2019 Diving Virginia Prep League (VPL) Championship with a score of 414, a new School record! Boys' swimming was also honored with the VPL Sportsmanship Award, which was voted on by all of the coaches in the league.

Record Breakers
Vijay Chhabra broke his own 200 IM and 100 breast records
Ava Schetlick broke the 50 free record, which was previously set in 2009
Zach Ashby broke the 100 back record, which was previously set in 2016
Ellie Shaps broke her own 100 breast record from earlier this season
Girls 200 Free Relay (Vaya Chhabra, Lauren Sullivan, Rosali Swett, and Ava Schetlick) broke the previous record, which was set in 2009

Finalists in Individual Events & Relays
Gresh Chapman: 4th in diving
Boys' Medley Relay (Zach Ashby, Vijay Chhabra, Sebastian Cave, Noah Hochrein): 6th
Vijay Chhabra: 6th in 200 IM and 9th in 100 breast
Zach Ashby: 8th in 100 back and 17th in 200 free
Boys' 200 Free Relay (Vijay Chhabra, Sebastian Cave, Noah Hochrein, Zach Ashby): 9th
Girls' 200 Free Relay (Vaya Chhabra, Lauren Sullivan, Rosalie Swett, Ava Schetlick): 17th
