Daily Life

Throughout the school year our Upper School students participate in a number of special events designed to build community.

 

Some of these events are long-standing traditions that have been with the School from its early days, while others are newer happenings that have only come about in recent years.

Clubs Fair

The Clubs Program offers an exciting opportunity for students to explore the wide and varied interests of the student body at St. Anne’s-Belfield. In early September the Upper School hosts a fair at which students introduce their club to the Upper School and encourage their peers to join. 

Field Day

Students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade take part in the School’s annual Field Day, divided into maroon and white teams. Each grade engages in age-appropriate challenges, with the Senior – Kindergarten Piggyback relay as the traditional final event.

Holiday Sing-Along

At the close of the week before Winter Break, Kindergarten students visit the Upper School to tell jokes and sing festive holiday songs. Following the departure of the Kindergarteners, Upper School students continue the sing-along. The event concludes with a creative rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Moving-Up Chapel

The last Chapel of the school year is given by two graduating seniors and attended by Grade 8 – 12 students and faculty. At the conclusion of the Chapel, the seniors move from their seats in the senior section to seats on the stage, symbolizing their graduation from the School. Each class, in turn, is invited to "move up" from their current class section. At the end, eighth grade students are invited to join the Upper School, and they take their seats in the Grade 9 section of the auditorium.

Open Mic Nights

Held three or four times a year, Open Mic Nights provide students and teachers with opportunities to exhibit their special talents. A variety of stage presentations are performed during the evenings, including musical performances, storytelling, dancing, readings from students and teachers, and comedy acts.

Orientation

This event introduces students and their parents/guardians to the Upper School. Teachers, administrators, and student leaders offer tours and orientation sessions to new students and rising ninth graders. In the evening, members of the administration offer an information session to parents and guardians. Orientation concludes with a BBQ picnic where students have an opportunity to eat and get to know each other.

Senior-First Grade Easter Egg Hunt

A long-standing tradition in the School, seniors hide treats in designated areas of the Greenway Rise Campus. First grade students visit the Upper School and hunt for treats with the help of senior partners.

Senior Trick-or-Treat

Seniors are the only Upper School students to have the privilege of dressing in costume for Halloween. They "trick-or-treat" in the morning to pick up treats and share their costumes with the Upper School community. Later they visit the Learning Village to join the younger students in a Halloween Parade.

Spirit Week

Two or three times per year the Student Life Committee will organize Spirit Weeks to promote community and school spirit through special-dress days and events. In the past, these have included Wacky-Tacky Day, Twins Day, Decades Day, and School Spirit Wear Day.
