Why St. Anne's-Belfield?
Stellar school that is established with great values where our boys attend. St. Anne's is a place where I am able to continue my passion of sports medicine as the athletic trainer assisting our student-athletes to take care of their bodies in a preventative and proactive way, in addition to helping with recognizing, rehabilitating and managing injuries that occur through athletics.

I love the unpredictability of my job on a daily basis being able to support student athletes and coaches having the skill set to help people in emergency situations. Our care can be preventatively, educating in injuries, and rehabilitating to perform at the athlete’s optimal level.

Blair McAvoy

Upper School Computer Science Teacher

B.S. in Education, University of Virginia

Why St. Anne's-Belfield?
My first interactions with St. Anne's-Belfield were when I was working at a local nonprofit youth mentoring program (C4K). Kim Wilkens, former Computer Science coordinator at St. Anne's-Belfield, was very involved with the program and I really enjoyed collaborating with her on STEM education projects for both my program and hers. She helped me with activities specifically designed for girls and I came to some of her Hackathons and the CS Institute, getting to know some students and teachers at St. Anne's-Belfield. I was always so impressed with the culture of innovation there and it was clear that the school valued CS education for their students. So, years later, when this position opened up, it was a no-brainer for me.

One thing that's extra special about teaching CS is that you get to help students build things that they come up with. It's like art in that way — sure, everyone is working on the same assignment, but they can produce such incredibly different results and their personality always comes through in what they create.

Why St. Anne's-Belfield?
I really appreciate that our advisors, teachers, college counselors, and coaches really get to know your kids. They get to know what their passions are. And then they get them to expand their leadership skills and stretch themselves.

Fun fact: I love Charlottesville’s easy access to the outdoors, good food including the bacon-wrapped dates at Mas, and all things UVA.
