The St. Anne's-Belfield School uniform dress code deepens our sense of community while allowing students the freedom to focus on their passions and pursuits.

The Upper School dress code is intentionally designed to provide age-appropriate agency within a PS-12 setting. Students are expected to dress within a range of requirements that allows for choice of brand while still promoting a sense of school spirit.

At St. Anne’s-Belfield School, our focus is on learning and community. For this reason, we ask that students dress in a manner that emphasizes simplicity and unity. Simultaneously, we believe that high school is a critical time to begin preparing students for the workplace.

The guidelines for Friday Chapel dress are meant to provide choice within a set of guidelines that mirror those that exist in many professional settings.

Grades 9 – 12 Uniform Dress Code Requirements

  • Students are required to wear a collared, solid color shirt in the School color palette (maroon, white, black, gray) Monday – Thursday. Collared shirts must cover the midriff.

  • Students are required to wear solid color skirts, shorts or pants in the School color palette (maroon, white, black, khaki) Monday – Thursday. School-approved Lands' End plaid skirts and jumpers are the only exception. Not permitted: sweatpants, pajama pants, and athletic shorts.

  • Students may wear hooded or non-hooded sweatshirts, fleeces, and sweaters in solid colors from the School color palette or those with "St. Anne's-Belfield," "STAB," or "Saints" in writing. Outer layers with non-School logos are not permitted indoors.

  • Shoes should be safe and secure for any work that a student may do during the school day, including work in a laboratory or outdoors.

  • Any student who is found out of dress code will be provide a uniform top to change into. Students who chronically or egregiously violate the letter and spirit of the dress code may be subject to disciplinary action.

Chapel Dress on Fridays

  • All clothes are to be clean and in good repair. Clothing with holes or tears are not permitted.

  • Students may wear a dress or a blouse, dress shirt, collared shirt or button down shirt with dress slacks or a skirt that are appropriate for a business-type event. Sweaters may be worn.

  • Students need not wear items in the School color palette on Fridays.

  • Midriffs and under garments are to be covered.

  • Outer wear and athletic outer layers like sweatshirts are to be removed before entering Chapel.

Blue Denim Days

  • In Upper School, Blue Denim Days are every Thursday, unless otherwise announced. Students may opt to wear blue denim bottoms or stay with the Monday – Thursday options.

  • Jeans should be in good repair.

  • Collared shirts in the School color palette are still required.

  • Students in Grade 12 only are permitted to wear sweatshirts, fleeces or sweaters with a college or university logo on Thursdays.

Dress Down/Spirit Days

  • Student-run groups sponsor "dress down" and "spirit days." Student leaders work with the Dean of Students to set a date and communicate expectations for attire.
  • Students are to be in dress code if they opt out of dressing in the theme for spirit day.
