Grades K – 8 Summer Reading Challenge

Dear Students and Families,

Continuing to read over your summer break is very important!

Whether you are reading signs along the highway, closed-captioning on your favorite cartoon, or the latest book in a great series, reading is essential to keeping your mind sharp during the time you are away from school.

With that in mind, we have created a connect-the-dot reading challenge for you.

Reading Challenge Instructions:

  • Read something from the left-hand column and connect it to one of the options in the right-hand column.
  • You can read independently, with a partner, or listen to a book being read aloud to you.
  • Feel free to add your own ideas in the blank spaces! How many matches can you make?
  • Along the way, record a list of some of your favorite books you read over the summer.
  • Bring your challenge sheet and book recommendations to school in August so that we can hear about the books you loved and the creative ways that you enjoyed reading them!
  • While this activity is optional, we hope you will engage with it or choose to do a reading challenge run by your local library.

Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a wonderful summer filled with reading!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Walton (Reading Specialist) & Ms. Robinson (Librarian)
