School Celebrates Annual Festival of Lessons & Carols

St. Anne's-Belfield School celebrated one of its beloved traditions on Dec. 20, the annual Festival of Lessons & Carols. Based on the traditional Kings College, Cambridge service, the event offers the community a chance to spend time together before the official start of Winter Break.

This year's Lessons & Carols featured Upper School science teacher Meg Van Liew offering the Bidding Prayer followed by nine holiday lessons read by students. Helen Cohoon represented the second grade, and was followed by Stefan Laza (third grade), Nicholas Welsch (fourth grade), Leila Humphreys (fifth grade), Henry Dozier (sixth grade), Andrew Dahl (eighth grade), Emily Cheng (tenth grade), Hannah O’Donnell (eleventh grade), and Nick Reese (twelfth grade). Mr. Robert Clark, director of religious life, offered the Benediction.

A variety of School musical groups performed throughout the event, including the Philharmonic Orchestra (Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella); the Fourth Grade Choir (Bells in the High Tower), Saintly Voices (Angels We Have Heard on High), and the Upper School Concert Choir & Saints Chorale (There Shall a Star).

Following the festival, the School's Legacy families, those in which students of alumni now attend the School, gathered for their traditional photos. These photographs will be available following the Winter Break. The School also live-streamed the event for family members and alumni around the world who were unable to attend in person.

Photographs from this year's Lessons & Carols are now available on the School SmugMug account.
