To coincide with the start of the 2019 – 2020 school year, the Athletics department has unveiled its new Wall of Fame in the Conway Convocation Center. The initial entries, which recognize those student-athletes whose jersey numbers have been retired, are currently listed with the date of the jersey retirement. Moving forward, new entries will be based on coach’s nominations that are reviewed by a rotating panel of five coaches and administrators to ensure that the same standards are applied across all nominations.
“We had records going back a couple of decades for retired jersey numbers,” said Director of Athletics Dewayne Robinson. “So, we wanted to recognize those as the first inductees on the Wall of Fame. Moving forward, we’re hoping to bring a precedent of excellence to the wall whether that takes place during the student-athlete’s career at St. Anne’s-Belfield School or in the years that follow.”
Annual Wall of Fame induction ceremonies will be planned, to include alumni who return to campus for the celebration. Future entries on the wall will be marked with the year of the athlete’s induction, rather than the year of graduation or of a remarkable sports season.
“We are very pleased that the Wall of Fame has now been installed and can be viewed by our current and alumni communities,” said Robinson. “We have such a tradition of athletic excellence here at the School that it’s nice to have another way to recognize and celebrate it.”
