St. Anne's-Belfield School humanities teacher and cross country coach Andy Beardsley completed the 2018 Boston Marathon, notable for its cold, wet, windy conditions, in a time of 03:40:43 and in doing so was able to check an item off his bucket list: competing with best friend Larsen Klingel.
A long-standing tradition of St. Anne’s-Belfield School is our large and inclusive sports program.
- We recognize the important balance between academics and athletics, and believe strongly that regular physical activity, development of skills, and interscholastic athletic competition play critical roles in each student’s growth. Our sports program does much to contribute to the development of our students’ good character and morals, in addition to enhancing our overall School spirit. Fielding numerous levels in 15 sports, we gauge athletic achievement not just on the outcome of games, but on the values and experiences our students gain from participation. At St. Anne's-Belfield School, our athletic programs are competitive and enriching, stemming from a commitment of our coaches to create a well-rounded athletic experience and a dedication of our students to strive for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Interscholastic Grades 7 & 8 and Junior Varsity programs stress development and participation regardless of a student’s previous experience or level of talent. At the Varsity level, we aim to compete against other strong athletic programs across the region. Additional fitness activities, including our athletic development program, are also offered for students in Grades 9 - 12.
At St. Anne’s-Belfield School, our girls’ varsity athletic teams participate in the League of Independent Schools (LIS) and our boys’ varsity athletic teams participate in the Virginia Prep League (VPL). Both girls' and boys' varsity athletic teams participate in the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association (VISAA) for the post-season state play. In our history, we have won 30 state championships across seven sports, including Boys' Lacrosse (8), Boys' Football (7), Boys' Baseball (5), Girls' Lacrosse (3), Cross Country (3), Girls' Soccer (2), Girls' Basketball (2).
Our sports program does much to contribute to the development of our students’ good character and morals, in addition to enhancing our overall School spirit.
Our campuses offer excellent athletic facilities including three gymnasiums, five athletic fields, five squash courts, six tennis courts, a 32,000 square-foot Athletic and Convocation Center, a Student Activity Center with locker rooms and indoor batting cages, a baseball field with locker rooms, a softball field with locker rooms, a filming tower, a film room, public address systems, concession stands, and two state-of-the art turf fields.
Supporting all of our athletics teams is our parent-led Athletics Boosters, our athletic administration consisting of our athletic director, associate athletic director, and coordinator for athletic operations, as well as our athletic development team and our two athletic trainers.
