Music

The music curriculum at St. Anne’s-Belfield School welcomes all students and encourages active and spirited engagement. Students are given frequent opportunities to explore and expand their own creative and musical talents in the classroom, and through performances at all grade levels.

Learning Village

Students in Grades K - 5 take part in the Orff-Schulwerk curriculum, a comprehensive approach to performing arts education that incorporates music, dance, and drama. Students in an Orff classroom create, compose, and improvise at all age levels while constantly building music literacy.

Our students in Grades K - 4 perform in several events during the year in which each student sings, dances, and play instruments. Students in fifth grade, in addition to continuing with the Orff curriculum, also begin instruction on the violin, viola, cello, or bass.

Students build upon these experiences by joining the Grade 6 Choir or Haydn Orchestra and then Saintly Voices choir or Mozart Orchestra in Grades 7 & 8. These classes focus on building both individual technique and ensemble playing, and students perform in multiple events throughout the year.

Upper School

Students in the Upper School may choose from a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles. Our students regularly perform at school and community events, and routinely represent the School at the district, regional, state, and national level.

Instrumentalists may play in the Philharmonic Orchestra and may also audition to play in Counterpoints (Honors Strings). Vocalists may sing in the Upper School Concert Choir, as well as audition to sing in Saints Chorale in Grades 10 - 12. Additionally, students can elect to join an a cappella group, Elements of Sound (coed) or TrebleMakers (all female).

Music Theory (as well as AP Music Theory) are also offered in the Upper School.
