Honor Code

“Honor is excellence in character, integrity and uprightness.” With these words began the Honor Code of St. Anne’s School. From our Belfield tradition come these words: “If you can honestly say to yourself in any situation, ‘To the best of my knowledge, I have acted honorably and there is no trace of deceit in what I have done,’ then you need never be concerned that you are falling short of what the school expects.”

The Honor Code at St. Anne's-Belfield School simply states, “A student is not to lie, cheat or steal.” The Honor Code helps to create an environment in which honorable behavior is the standard for all conduct.

In the Upper School an Honor Council composed of eight elected students and one faculty advisor considers all violations of the Honor Code. After hearing the facts of a particular case, the Honor Council issues a recommendation to the Head of School. The Council may recommend Honor Warning, Honor Probation, or Dismissal from School.

The Honor Code also applies to the Lower School and Middle Schools in that all children as members of the St. Anne’s-Belfield community are expected to demonstrate “excellence in character, integrity, and uprightness.” However, the system in the Lower and Middle Schools is designed to teach and instruct students about honor. In the Lower and Middle Schools a student’s teachers and parents will work together to show the student that dishonorable behavior will not be countenanced in our school community.
