Skola Classes

Derived from the Swedish word for "school," Skola classes are after school enrichment opportunities designed to take Learning Village participants outside the boundaries of traditional classrooms. The fun classes inspire students in their learning, and challenge their existing skills which introducing new and exciting subjects for them to explore.

Build a solid foundation of computer science knowledge and then use your skills to create circuits, control tech tools, build robots, and make your creations come to life. Computer science is all about hands-on, exciting experiences that teach valuable skills like perseverance, flexibility, confidence, and collaboration. Roll up your sleeves and get ready for some creative and challenging fun with science, technology, engineering, arts, and math! Class size is limited to 10 students.

The City of Lights is calling your child to come and explore! We will "visit" Paris' famous museums, have suitcase races in the "capital of fashion", have a puppet show in the Garden of Luxembourg, and more! Your child will have a blast learning French, the culture of Paris, and the history of these famous places, all in a fun atmosphere! No prior French experience required. New language learners encouraged! Class size is limited to 12 students.

Flag Football (Grades 1 - 4)

Have you ever been told to “pay attention?” Have you ever had difficulty falling asleep or blurted out something that you wish you had not said? Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment, on purpose, without judgment. The practice of mindfulness helps build focus, impulse control and awareness of internal emotions and external surroundings. Mindfulness can also promote feelings of happiness and ease.

This fun afterschool class can serve as an introduction to mindfulness, or as a follow up to previous classes. We will work with the Mindful Schools’ curriculum and experiment with how we all pay attention in different ways, through the way we listen, move, observe the world and even how we enjoy food! Class size is limited to 10 students.

Ever wonder how to “photoshop” an image into another image? Or how to create special effects on photos or images? In this class, students will learn graphic design basics, such as understanding layers, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. Students will become familiar with a variety of graphic design software programs such as PrintShop, Microsoft Publisher and Print.net. Activities will vary from creating cards and signs to newsletters to image and photo editing. Class size is limited to 16 students.

SKOLA Chinese 101 is conversation-oriented, mixed with songs, games, character writing/recognition and cultural highlights with emphasis on skills of building basic Chinese sentences on a bilingual basis. Students who are interested can also participate in a Chinese Sing Along joint performance at the Chinese New Year Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Gordon Avenue Library with no additional charge. Class size is limited to three to eight students.

How much does your child LOVE PE?!?! Let the games continue after school! Mr. Raffinan loves sports as much as the kids. He will play PE games (e.g. Capture the Flag, Yeah, Baby, Spud) and team sports like football, soccer, basketball, kickball, and others. He will work with the students to decide which activities the group will do. Most days we will be outside. Our indoor option will be the Pre-School gym. If a class has to be made up after Feb. 20, it might meet on a different weekday. Class size is limited to 12 students.

The young boys and girls of today are on the go more than ever. Their busy lives are filled with sports, activities and socializing. Girls and boys have many opportunities to make a good impression, to create friendships and build life-changing skills. All of this can go awry if he/she has not learned the fundamentals of good conduct, respect and thoughtful behavior. Good manners are just as important as ever, they never go out of style. Class size is limited to 12 students.

Manners Can Be Cool & Fun (Grades 1 - 4)

Manners Can Be Cool & Fun – Grades 1 - 4 - $110 includes food

Taught by Ms. Carr, Director of the Southern School of Etiquette in EW Faculty Lounge
Students will meet in at “Sun Table” at top of EW Stairs, and dismiss at K/1 dismissal area.


Eat, laugh, and have fun while learning proper etiquette. Boys and girls have many opportunities to make a good impression, to create friendships and build important social skills. The six lessons will focus on the growth and development of the skills that are necessary for children to learn in order to communicate better, think of others instead of themselves and present themselves with confidence. This class is enjoyable both for the students (who can show off their new knowledge) and for the parents (who will be interested in the information that was taught in the lessons so they can correctly reinforce the skills at home). Certificates will be awarded at the end of the final session.
Food will be served at each class so that the children can practice what has been taught. Class size is limited to 12 students.

Science Club Crazy Concoctions (Grades K & 1)
