Letter from the Class of 2012 Senior Class Gift Co-Chairs
Dear Senior Class Parents,
We write to you with a special sense of purpose and excitement. You almost certainly will recall that as our children approached their ninth grade year, they were the inaugural recipient of a special Senior Class Gift – called Doug’s Trip – from the Class of 2008.
Honoring the life of Douglas Robert Wardle ‘08, it was a gift unlike anything the school had ever received – it was a gift of service. Through this funding, our children traveled to Pass Christian, Mississippi, to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. Most importantly, Doug’s Trip bound the members of the class together, directing their energy and developing their empathy for others as they worked side by side for a cause greater than themselves.
The ninth grade class has returned to Mississippi each spring to pick up where their schoolmates left off. To honor the accomplishments of our own children and make sure the legacy of service continues for future classes, we are proud to announce that the funding of Doug’s Trip will be the 2012 Senior Class Gift.
Our class has contributed an average of $90,000 to the Annual Fund over the past three years. Because the Annual Fund plays such a vital role in the health of our school and success of our programs, it is crucial that we continue to ask for your support of that fund. However, any contributions above and beyond $90,000 made by the families of the Class of 2012 will be directed to the Senior Class Gift. Therefore, your ongoing support is incredibly important to both the Annual Fund and the Senior Class Gift.
Each and every gift to the Annual Fund contributes to an impressive total. And here’s the wonderful thing about the act of making a gift – that act, just like Doug’s Trip, empowers other actions. Your gift will help us to continue this amazing tradition for future children while continuing the legacy of Doug’s Trip and the true spirit of community service.
In the coming weeks, we hope you will make an outright gift or pledge to the Annual Fund/Senior Class Gift. There are numerous convenient ways to make a gift, and each option is listed on the back of the enclosed pledge card. Five-year pledges also are encouraged as they allow you to make your best gift over a period of time.
We look forward to talking with you and sharing information in the weeks ahead.
With our gratitude,
Meg and Noell Michaels, Senior Gift Co-Chairs, parents of Caroline ‘12
