FINAL WEEKLY UPDATE FROM MR. BRENNAN AND HAPPY SUMMER!

This week in the Lower School ~ May 25, 2012

Chapel

Led by our fourth grade Girl Scouts Troop: Hallie Guyton, Ally Van Liew, Victoria Oakey, Tessa Del Vitto, Jenna Jokl, Maggie Little & Emma Robertson, we heard about the 100 year history of the Girl Scouts and how they have served our nation over those years. They thanked Jayne Brittle, mother of Jenna, who started this troop when Jenna joined St. Anne’s-Belfield. They also presented the LV Library two books “Here Come the Girl Scouts!” and “Girl Scouts, A Celebration of 100 Trailblazing Years”.

THANK YOU PARENTS

Food Bank

Your response to our summer challenge to help fill the food bank was amazing. Our PJ & Wacky Hair Day saw 1,064 items of food come in. That brings the Grand Total for the year to 6,453. Thank you so much and for thinking of others.

Faculty Appreciation Lunch

The final appreciation lunch, organized by Tricia Humphreys and sponsored so generously by all of you, was catered by Café Europe on the Corner. The food was a delicious blend of different Mediterranean dishes. The LS faculty thanks you for all the special lunches this year.

For Your Support & Volunteer Work

Thank you to all our parent volunteers this year ranging from Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day, grade plays and musicals, special event days, field trips and in all the other ways that you give your time and effort to help enrich our community life in the Lower School. We would like to give a big thank you to all the GLRs for their work over the year. The LS Coordinator, Tyler McNeely, has been truly awesome and agreed to meet with Mr. Brennan every week and posted the weekly news on the website! Judy English has been quietly waiting in the wings to take the reins from Tyler and has helped lead our Parent Education program.

GOODBYES

Mrs. Brady, the LS Administrative Assistant: is retiring after nearly twenty years of loyal service to the Lower School. She has had to keep Mr. Brennan straight for the last six years. We thank her for her dependability and good humor throughout the years and wish her and Ron a wonderful retirement together traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.

Mr. Connally, fourth grade teacher: After four years in the fourth grade Mr. Connally is following his passion for literature and will be teaching grades 7 and 8 at The Field School, Crozet. Congratulations to him also for being offer a place at Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury, Vermont this summer.

Ms. Reeves (“Ms Sallie”), kindergarten teacher: After four years Ms. Sallie is taking up a position in Charlottesville as the Head of a new Pre-School at Christ Church. We are also excited to inform you that she became engaged recently. We are grateful for all that Ms. Sallie has brought to our program since she joined us. We are confident she will be visiting us on a regular basis. We wish her every success in her new venture.

Mrs. Storslee, first grade teacher: will be moving to California. Mr. Storslee will be attending Stanford Law School in the fall. Mrs. Storslee taught our first graders for three years and she will be greatly missed. We hope that she will return to our classrooms in the future. We wish her much happiness in her new home.

Mrs. Grosch, the LS Science Coordinator: is becoming the new K-8 Department Chair for Science and will be teaching 7th grade Science next year.
