Vocal Music
Welcome to the St. Anne’s-Belfield School Choir Program!
We are striving for excellence and are glad to have you join us. Our program is developing a tradition of excellence because of the many dedicated students, parents and friends. You can truly make a difference! Your participation in the program is important to the success of the choir, and we hope to help you to be a more knowledgeable, confident, and successful singer. You will have the opportunity to develop musical skills in this class that you will be able to use during your time in choir and beyond.
The Concert Choir studies and performs choral literature from a variety of time periods and musical genres throughout the year. Students explore what constitutes effective performance practice for various styles, and come to a deeper understanding of how each piece fits (or does not fit) into the larger choral tradition. Each student develops his or her vocal ability, sight reading skills, and understanding of music theory and terminology.
Advanced students who wish to delve deeper into the choral art are given the opportunity to join Elements of Sound. This small ensemble has additional rehearsals and its memebers are selected from the Concert Choir through a vocal audition and interview with the director. This group performs and learns about the large variety of repertoire available for small choral ensembles, including music taken from the madrigal, vocal jazz and popular a cappella traditions.
