Student Spotlight: Tyler Brown '22

Silver Key Ambassador Tyler Brown '22 is a busy young man, fitting in giving tours to prospective families around a full academic schedule, basketball practices, and tennis matches.

"I volunteer because I think being the face of the School is important," said Brown of his Silver Key duties. "Whether it is touring, greeting parents, or anything else, I enjoy talking to parents and telling them just how great our School community is."

A student at the School since first grade, Brown is quick to mention that he remembers being a prospective student himself.

"Although I visited the School at a young age, I could not help but notice how kind and friendly the other students and teachers were to me," he remembered. "They continue to encourage me every day in my academic life at the School."

This encouragement is part of what Brown sees as the broader and most important part of St. Anne's-Belfield: the community.

"One thing that I admire about the community is how closely tied we are," he said. "Even though we are such a diverse community, I have been able to learn much about other peoples' cultures and backgrounds and simply have had the chance to know them better."

The shared traditions of the School are other favorites of Brown's, especially Lessons & Carols at this time of year.

"It's a School-wide event that takes place right before Winter Break," he explained. "I find it very interesting to hear many students reading passages to the large crowd of people. There are also many holiday-centered musical pieces performed by the choirs and orchestra."

The warmth Brown considers a hallmark of the School is his main message to all families considering coming to St. Anne's-Belfield.

"I would tell every family that this school is a very welcoming place," he noted. "No matter what background or culture you come from, there is a place for you here!"
