Grades K - 4 Celebrate Fall Poetry Festival

On Nov. 16, Grades K – 4 students celebrated the annual Fall Poetry Festival, this year themed "Celebrating Us!". Ms. Montague began the event by welcoming everyone, and eight RLA classes had the chance to take the stage. Ms. Beckwith, Ms. Sohne-Johnston, and Ms. Gutkowski were special invited guests who presented poems, including one in Latin, a poem and song about Ghana, and a German poem, respectively.

Classes included:

Ms. Bennett's RLA – Chicken Soup with Rice by Maurice Sendak
Ms. Kirkland's RLA – The ABC by Spike Milligan
Ms. Cafarella's RLA – Whoever You Are by Mem Fox
Ms. Kosefeski's RLA (Grade 2) – The Skin You Live In adapted from Michael Tyler's book
Mr. Raffinan's RLA – Praise Song for the Day by Elizabeth Alexander
Ms. Corbin's RLA – Block City by Robert Louis Stevenson
Ms. Johston's RLA – A Dreadful Language, author unknown
Ms. Murray's RLA – Olive's Gone, student poetry inspired by Walter Dean Myers and Sharon Creech
(regarding Olive the Hamster who had been having adventures in the Learning Village)
