Second Greenway Symposium to Take Place Jan. 21

Upper School students will host the second annual Greenway Symposium on Jan. 21, highlighting more "big ideas" from members of the Charlottesville community. Speakers will include:

  • John Grisham, author of bestselling novels including The Firm and The Pelican Brief;
  • Paul Perrone, inventor, entrepreneur, and founder and CEO of Perrone Robotics;
  • John Hart, Edgar Award-winning author, stockbroker, and former defense attorney;
  • Dr. William Winter, neurologist, consultant, and sleep medicine specialist.

Inspired by popular TED Talk events around the country, the event has once again been specifically designed to bring students into the conversation.

"I've seen a lot of TED Talks in Charlottesville, and I immediately connected to the speakers with their personal experiences and different causes," said student organizer Jerry Yao '18.

"We thought it would be really cool if we organized a local event led by students here at the School to share ideas. This year the Symposium does not have a theme, so we encourage audience members to seek it themselves."

Yao, along with fellow St. Anne's-Belfield School seniors Max Krupnick and Yuelin Dang, and juniors Piper Holden and Ashley Dahl, form the core coordinating committee of the event. The group has worked together for several months, including over summer break when they worked remotely from three continents.

Tickets will become available for the event, which will take place at Grisham Hall from 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m on Jan. 21, in the new year. Please visit www.greenway-symposium.org for more information.
