St. Anne's-Belfield School alumnus Chris Long '04 and Head Football Coach and Director of Alumni Relations John Blake were featured on nationally broadcast CBS This Morning speaking about Chris' generous donation of an entire season's pay to promote educational equity across the country.
Long, a defensive end with the Philadelphia Eagles and founder of the Waterboys charity that has raised $1.6 millon to build 29 solar-powered wells in east Africa, announced in September that he would donate two scholarships to the School, funded by his first six game checks of the 2017 NFL season, to provide opportunities for members of the Boys & Girls Club in Central Virginia. In October he announced he would use his remaining game checks of the season to fund educational initiatives in St. Louis, Boston, and Philadelphia - the three cities in which he has played professional football.
"He has always been one that's going to stand up for what he feels is right," Blake told CBS special correspondent James Brown. "He's also going to stand up for the little guy. I think he's a big believer in actions speak louder than words and his actions, now, are I think taking it to that next level."
