College Counseling
It is our goal in the College Counseling Office to provide the help, support, and information necessary to guide students and their families through the admission process to the best possible outcome for each individual. No two students approach this process in quite the same way. Some students begin the college search as early as freshman year; others are still struggling to make choices in the fall of senior year. Some families are deeply involved in the process at every step of the way; others prefer to give their children a wide berth to move at their own pace.
Our role is to meet each family where it is. We provide current information, make available helpful resources, organize relevant programs, host college representatives, visit colleges on behalf of our school, participate in regional and national organizations to keep abreast of current trends, work with advisors to help students plan their academic programs. We work closely with students to plan the most appropriate program of standardized testing, to assess their college possibilities, to develop an appropriate list of schools to which to apply, and to guide them through the actual admission process.
The materials on this web site are intended to make useful information readily available to students and families. You will find here a list of links to relevant articles and web sites; our College Profile; a list of what is new and noteworthy in the Upper School, some important downloadable documents, and our college workbooks. The first of these workbooks is intended to encourage ninth and tenth-graders to look ahead and to prepare the kind of high school record that will make possible the widest range of college choices. The second will guide students through the application process itself. All of these materials are available in print in the College Counseling Office.
Of course, printed matter can never take the place of direct conversation. Please do not hesitate to call or to e-mail us with your questions. In the realm of college admission, there are no silly questions; we welcome your communication. Indeed, the more closely we work together, the more successful we will be in helping our students to realize and achieve their goals.
