STAB Students Win TomTom Festival Youth Summit Pitch Competition

Charlottesville, Va., April 13, 2017 – Four St. Anne's-Belfield School students took first place in the TomTom Festival's second annual Youth Summit Pitch Challenge for their business idea, ProcrastinApp.

The group, Coco Wu '18, Eric Liu '17, Andy Wood '18, and Emily Cai '18, came up with the idea for ProcrastinApp during their participation in the Entrepreneurship Intensive this past winter at St. Anne's-Belfield. ProcrastinApp is a novel application for mobile devices that links with school-based software to help students stay on top of their homework and assignments.

The student-led pitches comprised of business ideas and solutions to address community challenges, and included students from many high schools in the area. The pitches took place on Thursday, April 13 at the Paramount Theater, and were limited to three minutes each in front of judges and a vast audience of students. ProcrastinApp was awarded a $500 prize for their first place idea.

"We're very proud of our students, and all of the students that participated in the Youth Summit. Their success again this year demonstrates the priority the School places on empowering and equipping students with the skills to meet community and market needs," said Peter Quagliaroli, head of the Upper School at St. Anne's-Belfield.

Other pitches included St. Anne's-Belfield students Matt Polumbo '17 and Ann Cathcart '17, who presented a community solution to standardized testing equity, and Jerry Yao '18, who joined a group of students from multiple area schools that originated as a part of the School's SPARK! Hackathon, presented QuickPick, a web-based application that brings people together around recreational sports. Both groups were also awarded monetary prizes.

Lucia Hoerr '18, Shawn Liu '17, Junho Moon '17, Marie Scott '17, William Du '19, and Henry Deal '18 also participated in the event as Youth Summit facilitators, breakout sessions leaders, Project Showcase presenters, and/or as members of the summit Student Advisory Council.

St. Anne's-Belfield School is a co-educational preschool through grade 12 day school of more than 900 students and 120 faculty and staff, with a boarding program in grades nine through twelve.
