SPARK! Regional Teen Hackathon at St. Anne’s-Belfield School January 30 – 31 

Charlottesville, Va., Jan. 27, 2016 – St. Anne’s-Belfield School is hosting a regional teen hackathon on January 30 – 31. SPARK! is a two-day event including a “learnathon” and hackathon, and will bring together more than 50 teens representing schools from around the region including Albemarle High School, Western Albemarle High School, Charlottesville High School, Monticello High School, Murray High School, Louisa High School, and St. Anne's-Belfield School. Also participating will be 25 mentors from organizations including Center for Open Science, WillowTree, Mozilla Foundation, U.Va. M.S. in management of information technology, Girl Develop It, and more.

The learnathon (January 30) will include workshops and interactive presentations to help teens learn to create tech. The hackathon (January 31) will be a time for students to work in groups to concentrate on a project or problem, with some real-world examples sponsored by local organizations. 

Current sponsors include QIM, Mozilla, U.Va. biomedical engineering, Locus-Health, WillowTree, and Leading Agile.

Judges include: Fatma Alali, U.Va. computer engineering Ph.D. student, Jason Brewster, i.Lab Incubator director at U.Va., Courtney Christensen, software developer at Linden Lab, Elizabeth Pyle, associate director for technology entrepreneurship at U.Va. School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Jeffrey Spies, co-founder and chief technology officer of the Center for Open Science.
