Kyle Long Jersey Being Retired Tonight, October 28
Charlottesville, Va., Oct. 23, 2015 - The jersey of Kyle Long ’08, St. Anne’s-Belfield School football star and current Chicago Bears offensive tackle, will be retired on October 23 at a half-time ceremony at St. Anne’s-Belfield School. Coverage of this event is encouraged.
Long wore number 58 for most of his career at St. Anne’s-Belfield School, though a change of position from offensive tackle to tight end saw him close out his senior year wearing number 9. The jersey bearing number 58 will be retired.
“In my opinion, Kyle Long was one of the best offensive lineman to come out of the state of Virginia in the last thirty years,” said Head Coach John Blake.
“I can’t even begin to tell you how many pancakes he had, we would have to count how many plays he had.”
During his time at the School, Long was a three-time all-state and all-conference player, and was selected a U.S. Army All-American in 2007 and invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was heavily recruited by college football programs, and received more than 50 offers to play at the collegiate level.
Long went on to play football for the University of Oregon, and was drafted by the Bears in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In 2014 he was named to the Pro Football Focus’ All-Rookie Team, and NFL.com’s All-Rookie Team. In 2014 he earned a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Coach John Blake will be available for interviews before and after the 7:00 p.m. home game against The Covenant School. Kyle Long will be available for interviews following the ceremony.
