STAB's Tarring Helps Select U.S. Lacrosse U-19 National Team

Earlier this summer St. Anne’s-Belfield School’s lacrosse coach Doug Tarring served as one of six invited, national high school coaches to select the U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team with U.S. Lacrosse.

The national team will compete for the Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship in Canada in July 2016.

During the tryout process more than 100 of the best student-athletes in the country were evaluated in June, July, and August, and narrowed to a group of 30, including U.Va.’s Dox Aitken, Ryan Conrad, and Jared Conners. A further selection will be made to bring the group to 23 for the World Championship.

Tarring was a member of the coaching staff that won the first World Championship in 1988 in Adelaide, Australia. Since then the national team has won each of the seven World Championships to date.

In addition to participating in the selections, Tarring was a coach in the USA Blue-White exhibition game broadcast live on YouTube.

Tarring served as the St. Anne’s-Belfield School athletic director from 1980 - 2012, and was the Boys' Varsity Lacrosse coach from 1979 - 2009. From 2012 he has coached the Junior Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse team.
