Mr. Andrew Beardsley (firstname.lastname@example.org) is an Upper School English and history teacher as well as a Varsity Cross Country head coach. He previously coached cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field in Maine.
In high school Mr. Beardsley participated in cross country and track and field, and continued while at Bates College. He has entered many races over the years, including the Boston Marathon and Chicago Marathon. In 1986 he earned a B.A. in English from Bates College, and in 1988 earned a M.A. in English from University of Maine, Orono.
Ms. Brooke Canova (email@example.com) is a physical education teacher for grades K - 3, a Learning Village Grades 5 - 8 life skills teacher, and the Grades 7 & 8 Volleyball head coach. She previously coached Varsity Swimming and Softball and Grades 7 & 8 Volleyball at the School, and volleyball at Monticello High School.
In high school Ms. Canova participated in volleyball, swimming, softball, winter track, and golf. She played four years of softball at the University of Virginia. She plays recreational volleyball in the City of Charlottesville. In 2007 she earned a B.S. in kinesiology from U.Va., and in 2008 earned a M.S. in education.
Ms. Kayla Carter (firstname.lastname@example.org) is a Learning Village Grades K - 4 science teacher and the Varsity Field Hockey assistant coach.
While in high school Ms. Carter played four years of Varsity Field Hockey, and one year for the Virginia Express club team. She played one year of club field hockey at James Madison University. She earned a B.S. in interdisciplinary liberal studies with a minor in education (K - 6) with a concentration in science, math, and technology before earning a M.A.T. from JMU.
Mr. Adam Colombo (email@example.com) is an Upper School mathematics/economics teacher and Varsity Cross Country assistant coach. He previously coached cross country at both Catalina Foothills High School in Tucson, Ariz. and Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo.
In high school Mr. Colombo was a member of the Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Track and Field teams. He earned a B.A. in secondary education from Arizona State University in 2008, and an M.B.A. in finance from University of Colorado in 2012.
Mr. Brad Connors is a PE teacher for grades k-4 and the head coach for varsity swimming and grades 7 & 8 boys soccer. Previously, Mr. Connors coached girls junior varsity soccer at Hong Kong International School. Mr. Connors earned a B.A. at James Madison University and a M.Ed. at the University of Virginia.
In high school he played soccer and golf, and swam. Mr. Connors also played club soccer at JMU.
Mr. Gearhart (firstname.lastname@example.org) is a Learning Village Grades 5 - 8 mathematics and life skills teacher, and a Grades 7 & 8 Football assistant coach.
In high school Mr. Gearhart played basketball and baseball. He earned a B.S. in teaching from the University of Virginia, and a M.A. in education in 2005.
Mr. Brian Gulotta (email@example.com) is a history teacher and advisor in grade seven, the grades seven and eight wilderness coordinator, and the Boys' Grades 7 & 8 Basketball head coach. He previously coached basketball, baseball, soccer, and cross country at Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, Conn.
In high school Mr. Gulotta participated in cross country, basketball, and baseball. He ran cross country at The College of Wooster, and earned a B.A. in 2001.
Mr. Antxon Iturbe (firstname.lastname@example.org) is the English Language Learner (ELL) department chair, an Upper School ELL and Spanish teacher, the assistant director of residential life, the director of the Summer ELL Camp, and the Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball head coach. He previously coached at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass.
Mr. Iturbe played basketball for four years at The George Washington University, and played professionally in Spain for nine years on four teams (Gijon, Melilla, Los Barrios, and Leon). He earned a B.S. in economics from The George Washington University in 2001, and a M.Ed. in bilingual, multicultural, and ELL education from the University of Massachusetts in 2013.
Mr. Brian Kent (email@example.com) is a physical education teacher and the Boys’ Varsity Basketball head coach.
In high school Mr. Kent played three years of Varsity Basketball, and two years in college. He earned a B.S. from Longwood College (now Longwood University), and a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia.
Ms. Sara Moses (firstname.lastname@example.org) is a Spanish teacher and Boys’ Junior Varsity Soccer assistant coach.
In high school Ms. Moses played soccer and basketball, and she participated in club soccer at Longwood University. She studied at Universidad de Belgrano in 2009, and earned a B.A. in Spanish from Longwood University in 2011.
Mr. Bo Perriello '89 (email@example.com) is the director of admission as well as the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse coach. He previously coached at Delbarton School in Morristown, N.J. and St. John’s Prep School in Danvers, Mass.
As a student at St. Anne’s-Belfield School, Mr. Perriello was a member of the 1986 and 1989 state championship lacrosse teams, and served as team captain in 1989. He was a four year letter winner at the University of Notre Dame, where he also served as team captain and made three NCAA tournament appearances. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1993 with a B.A., and earned a M.Ed. from Columbia University in 2002.
Ms. Sophie Speidel (firstname.lastname@example.org) is the School counselor, a grades nine and ten life skills teacher, and the Junior Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse head coach. She previously coached lacrosse at Western Albemarle High School, Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, Md., and as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Virginia women’s lacrosse team. She also coached cross county at The Madeira School in McLean, Va.
In high school, Ms. Speidel earned four varsity letters in lacrosse. She was a four-year starter, co-captain, MVP, and All-American at the University of Virginia, and played three years for the United States Women’s Lacrosse team (1982 - 1985). She was inducted into the Virginia Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005, and the Potomac Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2011. Ms. Speidel earned a B.A. in health and physical education from the University of Virginia in 1985, and a M.Ed. in counseling from U.Va. in 1989.
Ms. Taylor Stevens (email@example.com) is a Learning Village Grades 5 - 8 Spanish teacher, advisor, Destination Imagination coach, the Varsity Diving head coach, and Varsity Softball assistant coach. Prior to joining the School she coached diving at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., and a summer league diving team in Atlanta, Ga.
In high school Ms. Stevens was on the diving, softball, and golf teams. While attending Williams College she continued diving, and was the captain of the swimming and diving team her senior year. She graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and psychology in 2011, and earned a M.A.T. in secondary Spanish from Smith College in 2012.
Mr. Phil Stinnie (firstname.lastname@example.org) is the director of diversity and community outreach, dean of student life grades K - 12, and Varsity Girls’ Basketball head coach.
Mr. Stinnie played basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1984 - 1988, where he studied business administration, and was drafted by the New York Knicks prior to playing professional basketball in Europe for 12 years. In his years coaching at St. Anne’s-Belfield School his teams have won 11 League of Independent School (LIS) championships, and participated in 14 state tournaments with nine Final Four appearances, including three runner-up and two state championships.
Mr. Blake Ware (email@example.com) is the tenth grade dean, an Upper School mathematics teacher, and the Varsity Golf head coach.
Mr. Ware graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. and B.A. in 2007, and earned a M.A. from the University of Mississippi in 2012.
Phillip Barr has been playing and coaching for 31 years, with most of his experience taking place in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia. There, he played travel club soccer for various teams, Olympic Development Program(ODP), and was a four-year starter for Kecoughtan High School’s Boys' Varsity Soccer team in Hampton, VA from 1994 - 1998. Accomplishments include being team captain, 43 goals and 25 career assists, 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Tournament, and VHSL All State All-Star selection. After high school, Phillip attended Radford University and played club soccer there. In 2000, he began coaching the Bay Rivers Soccer Club and then moved to VA Rush Soccer Club in 2005. At VA Rush, Phillip coached the U12-U14 Boys Academy program and attained National USSF E and USSF D licenses to further his coaching education.
Patrick Foss was a member of the University of Virginia 2014 Men’s Soccer National Championship team, where he scored the game winning penalty kick to secure the title. He went on to lead the team in points and assists the following year, while also earning All- American, ACC Honor Roll, and Lowe's Senior CLASS honors. In the past, Patrick has coached soccer with Athletes in Action and SOCA, mentored elementary school students through Athletes for Hope, and been involved with community projects via City of Promise. He currently works for the Virginia Athletics Foundation and remains an active member of the Charlottesville community.
